Kathryn Welter is the Executive Director of the Boston Camerata, where her responsibilities encompass planning and coordination of the Camerata's various activities, including live, historically informed, professional world-wide performances of European and American music of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque eras; study and research into musical sources of the past; sound recordings and media projects; and community outreach and musical education. She is also the Executive Director of the Composers Conference and Chamber Music Center at Wellesley College, where her responsibilities include the organization of an annual two-week intensive summer workshop for aspiring composers and amateur chamber musicians. In addition, she is the Music Director of Peace Lutheran Church in Wayland, and Choral Director of St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Natick, Massachusetts. Her past experiences include teaching at Harvard University and managing the Heidelberg Castle Festival in Heidelberg, Germany. Dr. Welter completed her Ph.D. in musicology at Harvard University in June 1998. Her Ph.D. thesis is a re-examination of the life and works of Johann Pachelbel. She holds master's degrees in music from Harvard University and from the Eastman School of Music, which she obtained in 1992 and 1989, respectively. She is a 1986 alumna of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. |
